Last-Minute Christmas Gifts for Travellers

1. A fun/cute luggage strap

I have been using the same old luggage tag I found in my parents basement when I was a teen for many, many years now and it’s easily one of the most useful travel items I have. Whether to recognise my bag or keep a slightly overpacked bag in check, it’s just such a great item.

Any big department store should have some in stock, or check out these ones on Amazon.

2. A crossbody bag

It’s a running joke at this point, but my crossbody bag from Uniqlo is literally in every single one of my travel photos. It’s just such a useful travel bag.

It’s also one of the easiest travel gifts to find, even last-minute, as almost every store has their own version of it now. I still think the Uniqlo one is one of the best, but you can find a very similar one on Amazon too.

3. Good quality microfibre towels

Another absolute travel essential. While most travellers will likely already have one, getting a really high-quality one with a nice colour or pattern is a great gift idea.

A great example is this one by Dock & Bay or this one on Amazon.

4. Toiletry bag with a hook

When I finally switched to a toiletry bag with a hook, it was honestly life-changing. Especially if your travel friend/family member stays in hostels, being able to hang up your toiletries in the communal showers etc. is SO helpful!

I have this one and it’s lasted pretty well on my travels.

5. Satin Eye Mask

A satin eye mask is the perfect gift for literally any traveller, no matter the travel style. You can often find these in your local stores or on Etsy and support smaller businesses during the Christmas time. They are great on flights, in hostels/hotels, on sleeper trains and so on.

6. A camera

This is certainly on the pricier side, but there is no better gift for a traveller than a nice camera. My personal favourite is the DJI Osmo pocket, as it takes amazing videos while being able to fit in any pocket. I actually got mine as a second-hand deal from Amazon for a really great price, so it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Other good ones are a Go Pro or a 360 camera

7. Something that reminds them of home

As a traveller myself, one of my favourite types of gift is something small I can bring with me that reminds me of home and my loved ones. Whether that is a dainty necklace, a keychain, a small photo, a drawing – anything works. The better you know the other person, the easier this will be.

It’s also a great last-minute gift as you may already have something at home or be able to DIY it.

8. Something that reminds them of their favourite destination

On the other hand, if they have a favourite destination they always talk about, a little something that is linked to that is a really thoughtful gift. Say e.g. they loved their Japan trip, get them a box of some Japanese treats or a Matcha gift basket. Other ideas are stickers of the places, a country scratch map, clothing from the area, and so on.

9. A trip together

Whether a staycation or a once-in-a-lifetime trip to a special destination, any traveller will really appreciate you wanting to do their favourite thing with them. Travelling makes so many incredible memories and special moments, that there is no better gift than travelling together.

This one is great for last-minute as you can DIY a “voucher” for the trip and plan the rest later. And it doesn’t have to break the bank! A staycation can be super affordable and an amazing time.

10. An E-book subscription

Being able to read anywhere, anytime is the best when travelling. I don’t know any traveller who wouldn’t love being gifted an e-book subscription (like Kindle Unlimited). Travelling involves a lot of transportation and waiting around, often without Wi-Fi or data, so having a good book downloaded can feel like a lifesacer.

11. Fancier solid shampoo/conditioner

Whether you’re travelling with only a carry-on or trying to save space, solid shampoo and conditioner are truly one of the greatest travel products. While most travellers would likely already have some, a great (and easy last-minute) gift would be a fancier version or some add-ons like a container or net for them.

The sets from Ethique for example are really lovely.

12. Good hiking/walking socks

This may seem cliché, but socks are an AMAZING gift for travellers. Trust me.

I have lost SO many to washing machines and walked a hole in many more. A great pair of hiking socks or even Merino Wool socks will bring tears to your favourite travellers eyes. Here are some good options.
