Where to Stay in Milan
Budget to Luxury

Milan is known as the fashion capital of Italy and is home to some of the most stunning buildings in the region. The city is also one of the hosts of the 2026 Winter Olympics, meaning booking accommodation well in advance of your trip is crucial. Here are my favourite accommodation options in the city, from budget to luxury.

Milan is a very walkable city and has some beautiful neighbourhoods. Great ones for travellers to stay in are the historic centre (close to attractions), Navigli (nightlife and atmosphere), Isola (suburban charm) and Porta Venezia (close to the centre).

How to get to Milan?

Milan Airport has two terminals that are quite far apart but they are connected by free shuttle bus. There are several ways to get to the city centre:

Bus – Terravision runs a bus from the airport to Milan Central Station for 16€ return, it takes about 50 minutes.

Train – Malpensa Express runs from both terminals to several stations in Milan, taking around 50 minutes and costing 13€ each way.

If you are coming from within Italy or Europe, you may also arrive via train/bus (e.g. Flixbus). Trains usually arrive at Milano Centrale whereas buses go to the same or Garibaldi station.

How many days do you need in Milan?

I would recommend a day or two in Canmore in the summer, though you can easily add more if you have the time. There are so many things to do in this mountain city. Check out more info in my Canmore Guide

If you are coming in the winter to ski/snowboard the famous Banff Ski Resorts, you will likely want to stay 5-7 days. Canmore is a great alternative to Banff as it is cheaper and there is a direct bus to the resorts. Make sure to book well ahead for the best prices.
