ToggleWhere to stay in Paris, France for any traveller:
A good guide is staying in the central areas of Paris, especially near the River Seine. Paris is split into 20 “districts” called arrondissements. The 7th one is good for those looking to be close to the Eiffel Tower, whereas Latin Quarter will give you a ton of history and culture.
Avoid the areas around Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. Be careful with the districts of Montmartre (especially at night in Barbès, Pigalle, and Red Castle) and also avoid the 19th arrondissement at night.
I also need to mention here that Paris is an expensive city to visit! Hostels start at around 40$ per night and hotels at absolute minimum $100. I’d recommend to book early and be a little flexible with dates to get the best deals.
Affordable hostels in Paris
The People Paris Bercy (nice rooms, lovely staff, a little away from attractions)
- JO&JOE Paris – Nation (lovely rooms, close enough to the centre at a good price)
FRATERNiTY-HOTEL (spacious rooms, close to public transport)
Hotels at different price points in Paris:
$ Virgina Hotel (nice budget hotel, close to the metro)
$ Hotel Ernest (small rooms but great location and great value for money)
$ Hotel George – Astotel (part of the Astotel chain which are all very good in Paris)
$$ Hôtel Château Frontenac (great location, beautifully decorated)
$$ Yuna Porte Maillot – ApartHotel (lovely new rooms, delicious breakfast)
$$$ Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel (Eiffel Tower views, insane location)
$$$ The Peninsula Paris (pure luxury, 100% worth the price tag)
When is the best time to visit Paris in 2026?
If you are looking for quieter, less touristy months, visiting in February-April/May or October/November is a good idea. Check booking sites to see which dates are cheapest, as those are likely also the least busy times.
December is a stunning month for Christmas lights and holiday cheer, though expect colder weather and more crowds, especially close to Christmas.
Summer brings the nicest weather but also the most crowds. I would probably avoid July and August.
How many days do I need in Paris?
I’d say you can see the main sights in two days, but it would be jam-packed. 3-5 days in France’s capital will allow you to see everything, as well as have some calmer afternoons in a museum or a day trip to Versailles.
