Eating out while solo travelling can feel overwhelming, especially in a city as big and touristy as Rome. However, it doesn’t have to be and there are countless of stress-free food options for solo travellers, all of which also offer vegetarian options. Here are my personal favourites after countless days spent roaming the city:

ToggleThe Best Restaurants in Rome for Solo Travellers:
I want to start off by saying that this guide is for anyone who may feel awkward eating out alone (like I still do sometimes) or wants easy food options on-the-go for solo travellers.
It is not meant to say that you will not be able to eat out in any restaurant you want to alone in Rome. Absolutely not! It’s super touristy and everyone is more concerned with themselves than you, so do not let being alone stop you from trying incredible restaurants. Plus, I have never been treated weird by a restaurant here about wanting a solo seat.
The restaurants below are my favourites for when I feel like something easy and delicious and local. They vary from Roman-style street food to small takeaway pasta places to “proper” restaurants. So, truly something for anyone!

Petta Roma - Pasta e Polpetta
If you’re looking for fresh pasta at an affordable price that is made to order, this is the place. Plus, it’s a super small but cute restaurant where absolutely no one will look at you twice for ordering alone. It’s honestly the ideal place for a solo traveller and right by the Vatican!
I suppli dei coronari
One of my favourite lunch foods for on the go (or a snack) in Rome is Suppli. They are shaped like ovals, rice cooked in rich sauces (my favourites are the ones with Roman flavours like Cacio e Pepe, which is vegetarian btw) and fried to perfection on the outside. And this shop does it best!
Pizza e Mozzarella
Another food for on-the-go is Pizza, but the Roman streetfood version which looks more like a focaccia. It’s usually sold by weight and features many different flavours. It’s sometimes also called Pizza al Taglio (Pizza by the Slice). You’ll find these takeout places everywhere in Rome, and they are honestly all delicious. This one is near the Pantheon.
Pitstop Sandwich Cafe
If you find yourself near Roma Termini (main station) and are hungry, I can recommend this café HIGHLY! It’s local, affordable and has delicious sandwiches, including so many veggie options. Don’t be afraid of how local it looks, they are super friendly in there!
Pastasciutta
Another take-out place with fresh-to-order pastas, but this one has a few locations dotted around the city. While it isn’t the most gourmet pasta you will find in Rome (as with most of these to-go places), it’s delicious, fairly priced and super easy to grab and eat somewhere with a beautiful view!
📍Pastasciutta near Trevi Fountain
📍Pastasciutta near Vatican
There are also several other delicious pasta takeaways near the Vatican, like Ostevia or a little more restaurant style at Pastamore.
Royal Art Cafe
This cafe has a rooftop with insane Colosseum views and as a solo traveller, you’ll probably have a good chance of still getting a spot. Just beware that the drink prices match the view.
Trieste Pizza
A tiny street-side pizza place that amazing pizzas, in normal or mini size. They also have a few seats and are the perfect place for a solo traveller!
Buddy Veggy Restaurant Cafe
If you want to try all the Roman classics like Carbonara or Amatriciana, or just want an endless variety of vegetarian food, this restaurant is amazing. They are also fully vegan btw!
Mus Caffe
Incredible breakfast and lunch spot that is super small and will not bat an eye at solo travellers. The croissants are seriously delicious!
Fuorinorma
They serve the most delicious Paninis with meat and vegetarian options. The flavours feel truly Roman too and everything is super fresh!
