Looking for the perfect October getaway? Look no further. Here are 10 sunny destinations to chase away the cold and top up your tan. From Mexico to Thailand to Europe, there is somewhere for everyone.

October is the perfect time for a warm getaway with the colder months approaching and temperatures dropping drastically. Where I’m from in the UK, October often means a ton of rain and grey days. Hence, a warm retreat is often needed.

Best Sunny Getaways for a Warm October Holiday

Plan your October escape from the cold with one of these incredible locations and soak in the sun on the beach! Here are 10 different options of where to head this October:

1. Mexico

Average temperature in October: 20-30°C (68-86°F)

Whether you are looking for a beach-retreat in Cancun, where temperatures are often still around 30°C in October, or to catch the end of Mexico’s surf season in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico offers guaranteed warm weather in October. It is also often considered the shoulder season here and hence prices are lower than usual – perfect to explore some culture and history on amazing daytrips too.

2. Greece

Average temperature in October: 20-28°C (68-82°F)

Avoid the crowds and blistering summer heat and experience Greece at its best by going in October. The weather will still be nice and warm, especially on the more southern islands. So whether you are finally ticking Santorini off the bucket list (with slightly less tourist masses) or enjoying the emerald water of Corfu, Greece is the perfect warm getaway for October.

3. Southern Portugal

Average temperature in October: 19-25°C (66-77°F)

Portugal is one of my all-time favourite countries, and while the north cools down a lot in October, the south such as the Algarve maintains balmy temperatures. From beautiful beaches to historic little towns and breath-taking nature walks, this area of Portugal has it all. If you are looking to explore more of the area, I’d recommend renting a car.

4. Cyprus

Average temperature in October: 20-27°C (68-81°F)

Cyprus is the perfect place to top up your tan before winter, with warm temperatures well into late October and pristine beaches. It also has some beautiful towns to explore and natural highlights such as Akamas Peninsula National Park and Troödos Mountains.

5. Thailand

Average temperature in October: 24-30°C (75-86°F)

October is the end of Thailand’s rainy season and hence a good time to visit. The weather isn’t unbearably hot yet, meaning you can explore some of the cultural wonders this country has to offer. It will also be a little quieter as it is the shoulder season. Make sure to try some street food while in Thailand, they have some of my favourite dishes in the world.

6. Australia

Average temperature in October: 18-30°C (64-86°F) – colder in the South, warmer in the North

Australia is still pretty balmy in October, though for real beach weather you should head North around Cairns where temperatures in October are already in the high 20°C’s. It’s also still a good time to visit central Australia with highlight’s such as Uluru as it isn’t blistering hot yet.

7. Brazil

Average temperature in October: 20-28°C (68-83°F)

October in Brazil is when it starts to heat up but it isn’t rainy season yet, making it a great month to visit. It is also not too busy yet and hence a great time to explore big cities as well as relax on the beach.

8. Egypt

Average temperature in October: 22-32C (72-90°F)

Egypt in October offers pleasantly warm temperatures, perfect for exploring the stunning attractions of Egypt, such as the pyramids. It is also a good time for a beach holiday, Marsa Matruh for example gets temperatures in the high 20°Cs

9. Barbados

Average temperature in October: 25-30°C (77-86°F)

If you are looking for THE relaxing beach holiday destination in October, look no further than Barbados. As October is considered within the rain season and gets the occasional shower, the island is a lot less busy and prices are more affordable. Enjoy the most beautiful tropical beaches, delicious food and world-class rum.

10. Turkey

Average temperature in October: 18-25°C (64-77°F)

Whether you are looking to get pure relaxation in one of Turkey’s all-inclusive resorts or explore some of their beautiful cities, October is a great time to visit Turkey. Prices will also be much more attractive around this time, as peak tourism season is over.
