Ljubljana is one of my favourite underrated cities in Europe. It’s compact, beautiful with delicious food and lots of things to do, including incredible day trip options. Here is exactly where to stay in Ljubljana and some of my favourite hostels/hotels.

ToggleWhere to stay in Ljubljana:
One of my favourite things about Ljubljana is how walkable the town is. You could stay anywhere between the station and castle and be within walking distance to all sights really.
Overall, I’d recommend trying to stay close to Old Town and the Ljubljanica river, as from there most tourist attractions are easy to get to, there’s lots of restaurants and it’s super safe.
Affordable Hostels in Ljubljana:
- AdHoc Hostel – super central location, decent rooms
- Hostel Celica – unique looking hostel and rooms, clsoe to centre
- H2O Hostel Ljubljana– great location, affordable and nice rooms
Best Hotels in Ljubljana for Every Budget:
$ ibis Styles Ljubljana The Fuzzy Log – Capsule-style rooms at affordable prices
$ Apartments Maria – self-service style, central
$$ B&B Hotel Ljubljana Park – good location, clean, quiet (I’ve stayed here multiple times)
$$ Atelier Hotel – central, lovely rooms
$$$ Lesar Hotel Angel – right by the castle, beautiful rooms
$$$ Grand Plaza Hotel – 5-star hotel with insane views from the higher floors
How many days do you need in Ljubljana?
I would recommend planning in 2-3 days (minimum) to see Ljubljana, more if you enjoy calm cafe mornings and city strolls.
The city is very compact but with sights like the castle and central market, I would allow 2 days to fully explore and get lost down some back alleys.
Then at least another day for daytrips, such as Lake Bled, Postojna Cave or Vintgar Gorge.
What’s the best month to visit Slovenia?
Shoulder season like April/May and September/October are a great time to visit for still good weather (though expect some rain), but less crowds and slightly cheaper prices.
Summer is also an amazing time (June, July, August) with toasty temperatures and thriving nature. During this time you can swim in places like Lake Bled.
Winter is actually an underrated season with lots of winter sports opportunities, snowy landscapes and cosy spa retreats.
