My Must-Pack Travel Items to Keep Your Belongings Safe this Euro Summer

1. A crossbody bag

This might seem too obvious, but a crossbody bag is truly the most useful thing you can pack. I have made it to 39 countries with my Uniqlo one (they also have similar ones on Amazon) with no incidents.

The reason it’s such a simple safety item is because you can place it across your body and in the front, so the zip is right within your eye sight. That means no one accesses it without you noticing and it’s really hard to rip it off your body.

I personally also love these bags as they fit so much and are just THE most practical travel bag (and really affordable). They’re visible in like 90% of my travel photos haha.

2. Small carabiners

I have found with keeping my stuff safe while travelling, especially during the packed Euro Summer, that you just need to make it a little difficult for thieves. The minute something doesn’t open easily, it is usually not worth the effort.

One of my cheapest and easiest safety gadgets I carry everywhere are small carabiners. For example I clip one on the strap of my crossbody bag and then clip the same one into the zipper of my bag and bam – no one’s opening that. Such an easy hack but SO effective!

They’re also great for attaching extra bits and pieces to your bags and honestly keep everything secure. I also sometimes use them to secure my suitcase or backpack when I am walking around with them, as once again it just makes it more difficult to open them.

3. A phone chain

me and my trusty phone chain 🙂

Another holy grail and yet affordable item I have is my phone chain. I prefer the ones for your wrist but the body ones work just as well.

I am really bad at putting my phone away as I am always snapping photos and not once have I had issues with my phone chain. It secures your phone to your body and protects you from drive-by snatchers and pickpockets.

Another benefit is that I’m not dropping my phone constantly anymore, especially not when talking photos in precarious situations.

Check out these ones.

4. Strong portable powerbank

A portable power bank is key to your safety because your phone is your safety line, especially when solo travelling

From flashlight to camera to e-reader to emergency aid, your phone is your most important travel companion. And keeping it charged is key!

Make sure to get a good power bank like this one, I’d recommend a minimum of 20000mAh from experience.

You should also get a Sim card or E-Sim as soon possible when landing in a new country. I usually use Airalo and get my E-sim prior to my flight.

5. Small numbers lock

When I need more protection or travel on a train/bus/plane, I use a lock to secure my suitcase and backpack. It just adds an extra layer of security and can be found for super affordable (like this one).

I also use it for lockers in hostels, which is key to protecting your stuff! Never leave valuables lying around in shared spaces, I have met so many people who’ve had their stuff stolen.

6. AirTag or Bluetooth tracker

I personally don’t use AirTags (yet anyway) as I try to keep my most valuable things in my small backpack that never leaves my body, but it can be an important safety item if you have a bigger suitcase or valuables elsewhere.

You can also get cheaper Bluetooth trackers on Amazon, I am eyeing this up myself atm. You could also place one in your purse or camera equipment or anything you carry around that you’re concerned about.

7. RFID blocking wallet or phone case

One of the more modern scams is thieves carrying card readers that can get your card information in a crowd. I personally only carry my Revolut card where I can see immediately if something happens, but it is something to watch out for!

A great way to prevent any issues is getting and RFID blocking wallet or phone wallet (like this one)
