Where to Stay in Porto
Budget to Luxury

Porto is known as the city of Port wine, beautiful historic buildings and winding streets and is one of my personal favourites in Europe. It is also a very affordable city with so many different things to do. Here are some of the best accommodation options in Porto:

Where to stay in Porto, Portugal for any traveller:

Porto is a very walkable city with great public transportation. If you are looking to do sightseeing, I would recommend staying close to the centre and near the Douro River. If you are looking to surf, search closer to the beaches like Matosinhos.

Affordable hostels in Porto

Rivoli Cinema Hostel – This hostel offers nice rooms (beds with curtains), lovely staff and a fantastic location right by the central square. Also lots of ways to meet other travellers!

Onefam Ribeira – Super central with dorms that allow lots of privacy. They have lots of events and activities which is great for solo travellers.

The Passenger Hostel – An amazing hostel right by Sao Bento station, known for its cleanliness and friendly staff.

Hotels at different price points in Porto:

$ Hotel Jaguar – This hotel doesn’t just offer gorgeous rooms at fair prices but also a free shuttle to the airport. It is located a bit away from the centre but with metro access just a 5-minute walk away.

$ The Editory Garden Porto Hotel –  Fantastic value for money, right in the city centre.

$$ ICON Duplo Ribeira  – Beautiful hotel close to the river with delicious breakfast.

$$ Jardim da Batalha Boutique Hotel by Shiadu – Easily one of the best hotels in Porto with exceptional service and beautiful rooms.

$$$ Ribeira Douro Hotel – Located right by the Douro river in Porto’s centre, here you will find quiet luxury paired with amazing staff and delicious breakfast.

$$$ The Yeatman Hotel – A hotel that offers pure luxury with rooftop pools that look over Porto and a delicious restaurant.

How to get to Porto?

If you are arriving from abroad, you will likely land at Porto airport, which is fairly close to the city centre.

Check out my full guide on getting from the airport to the city centre here: How to Get from Porto Airport to Porto City Centre on a Budget

If you are coming from another city in Portugal like Lisbon, you could either get a bus like Flixbus (as cheap as 5€) or train.

How many days do you need in Porto?

I would recommend around three days in Porto to see the main attractions and go on some day trips to e.g. the Douro Valley for a wine tour or Aveiro for their colourful boats. If you have longer, you could head on adventures further away such as Nazare and Braga.
